Submitting work
How to submit your work
In Phase 0 and Phase 1 you submit by uploading your file on the unit's page. You need no git and no GitHub account: the course teaches git in unit 1.2.1, and it becomes the way you submit after that.
Four steps, no waiting on a person
From your file to a verdict
Every submission goes through the same four steps in the same order.
- Step 1
Run it on your computer
Run your program the way the unit shows, and read what it prints. The unit page lists every automated check, so you can see what each one looks for.
- Step 2
Upload the file on the unit page
At the end of each unit you submit, a card names the exact file it takes. Pick your copy and upload it. There is nothing to install and no account to connect.
- Step 3
The checks run in isolation
Your file is copied into a fresh, isolated run with the unit's files beside it, no network, and nothing left over from anyone else. Some checks use an input you have not seen, so a program has to read its input, not remember an answer.
- Step 4
The verdict page fills in
Uploading opens the verdict page. It updates by itself while the checks run, then shows Passed or Not yet with every check listed.
Uploading again
- Upload again after any verdict, as often as you like. Each upload is its own submission with its own verdict page.
- While one upload for a unit is waiting or being graded, a new one for the same unit waits for it. The page says so and links to the one in progress.
- Uploading the same file twice opens the submission it already made rather than grading it again.
Four states, nothing hidden
What each status means
Your file arrived.
We stored it. It waits in line to run, and nothing has run yet.
Your code is running.
The automated checks run your program one at a time. A unit with rubric review has it read your code afterwards.
There is a verdict.
Passed or Not yet, with every check and what it found.
Grading stopped early.
The run broke, or you had spent your grading budget. We wrote no verdict, and this does not count as an attempt. Upload the same file again and it goes back in the queue.
What is not here yet
- We grade only written units. Phase 0 and unit 1.1.1 are open today. The rest is being written and shows as planned until it is ready.
- We have not built the recorded walkthrough. No unit needs a video.
Accounts and payments
An account is free. One payment opens Phase 0 and Phase 1, and your submissions stay linked to your account.
